Social, emotional and mental health (SEMH)

Children can display signs of SEMH in a variety of ways.

About social, emotional and mental health

This may include becoming withdrawn or isolated, as well as displaying challenging, disruptive or disturbing behaviour.

Positive mental health and wellbeing

Support to develop these at a whole school level and for those with particular needs.

Emotional regulation

For pupils who need support in regulating and communicating their emotions.

Social skills

Support for pupils having difficulties making and maintaining appropriate and healthy relationships.

Anxiety (attendance) and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)

Anxiety can become a problem if we start worrying a lot about small things or relatively harmless situations.

Positive behaviour support

With children who need support, it can be useful to consider behaviour as communication.
