Health and safety support for schools and academies in Oxfordshire and beyond.
The Health and Safety Team assists Headteachers and the Governing Body in meeting their statutory health and safety responsibilities by providing competent practical advice and guidance to support safe, secure and rewarding learning environments and robust safety management.
Our service
What’s included:
- A team of health and safety professionals with experience in educational settings who can provide practical advice, assistance and support including on-site visits.
- Advice on keeping people safe and healthy – your employees and those who are affected by your activities i.e. pupils, contractors, members of the public, visitors.
- Advice on maintaining safe and secure sites, buildings and equipment to meet legislative and Ofsted requirements.
- Access to a range health and safety information and resources on the Council’s schools Intranet including policies, procedures, guidance and newsletters.
- An annual health and safety site visit which will assist you to fulfil your statutory and delegated health and safety responsibilities, to include advice on good practice related to your activities and processes and a site safety tour of buildings and grounds to identify any actions needed to improve health and safety
- Annual pre-use inspection of school based seasonal swimming pools and annual inspection of indoor pools.
- Annual condition inspection and report of specialist equipment undertaken by competent contractors for Design and Technology workshop equipment, ceramic kilns and science radioactive sources.
- Annual inspections by competent contractor of indoor PE and fixed outdoor play equipment to make certain the facility is in the best possible condition and ensure there are no risks that could be unsafe for children. Note: Fitness suites, includes up to 8 pieces of equipment only (additional charges may apply for additional pieces of equipment).
- Access to specialist and technical advice including science advisory (CLEAPSS) and the Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) Service.
- Assistance in emergency situations such as dangerous occurrences; e.g. asbestos exposure, contamination issues, legionella, hazardous substance releases, critical incident arrangements.
- Assistance with investigations into serious accidents that the Health and Safety Executive and other external bodies may involve you in. If additional visits are required in relation to significant issues an additional charge may be applicable.
- Access to Swim England Support Teacher of School Swimming and other training (price on application).
- Option of additional consultancy days as required (price on application).
Access to competent Health and Safety support is a legal requirement. Failure to either buy back this or a similar service or employ your own competent person could expose your school, staff and governors to potential prosecution.
