Pay Awards 2024/25 - Teachers and Support Staff

We’re pleased to confirm that the national trade unions have agreed to the National Employers pay increase of £1,290 per annum for 2024/25 for all employees paid up to and including scale point (SCP) 43, and an increase of 2.5 per cent for employees paid on SCP 44 and above, with effect from 1 April 2024. 

This applies to all colleagues on National Joint Council for Local Government terms and conditions (grades 1 - 20) commonly referred to as the ‘Green Book’ pay scales, and those paid at Hay grades D and above who are also paid on Green Book terms and conditions. 

  • The pay award will be backdated to 1 April 2024 and paid on 31 December which is the earliest possible date for the payment to be processed. 
  • The new pay scales are now available.
  • The intranet will be updated shortly to reflect this. 
  • The IBC self-service will not be updated until 1 December (new rates will apply from then). 
  • The current rates will continue to be applied during this period. Teachers pay award We can also confirm a 5.5 per cent pay award for teachers has been agreed for all pay points. This will be paid on 31 December and backdated to 1 September 2024. 
  • If you receive Universal Credit, this increase together with the backdated payment may mean you receive less Universal Credit than normal or you may even earn too much to qualify. Unfortunately, payment of backpay cannot be staggered over a period of months. The only advice we are able to give is, “Universal Credit is a very specific issue that applies in different ways to different people, it’s impossible for us to issue any national guidance. Employees affected by this issue should speak to their Universal Credit Work Coach through their online account or call the Universal Credit Helpline on 0800 328 5644.” Frequently asked questions are available on the intranet.
