Service pupils promise from Oxfordshire County Council
Following on from our successful conference last academic year, we made a promise to the pupils from Service Families who attend Oxfordshire schools . We have collated their views of life in school as a pupil from a service background and we invite all schools to share a copy of Oxfordshire County Council’s ‘Promise’ with every Service family pupil.
We ask that all schools reflect on their own practice so that together we can help all pupils from Service backgrounds.

Toolkit for the support of Service Children – revised March 2022
This Toolkit is to support all Oxfordshire schools to access advice and support for Service pupils entitled to the SPP. The SPP sits alongside the Pupil Premium grant for pupils from a disadvantaged background and in most schools the Pupil Premium coordinator will lead on provision for these pupils. Information on how the school is supporting Service pupils should be included in the school’s SPP strategy.
Mod Education Support Fund (ESF) 2023
Applications can be accepted from publicly funded schools, Academies, Free Schools or from Sixth Form colleges with result letters circulated in January 2023 so that payments made to successful applicants can be made by March 2023.
The fund has distributed £42 million since being introduced in 2011 and is aimed at mitigating the challenges schools and their Service children face as a result of operational deployment or exceptional mobility. Typically, joint bids tend to be stronger that single school bids, and military endorsement of need is required.
Service pupil premium (SPP): Dfe information for schools
SPP is extra funding for schools to support children and young people with parents in the armed forces.
