Our information is now on Oxfordshire County Council's public website for parents and carers and schools and external providers.
The Communication and Interaction Team provide free support to children and young people, public funded schools and academies across Oxfordshire. We are a team of specialist teaching and advisory staff who work closely with settings to develop inclusive practice.
Our Offer
- Ongoing support and advice to settings ensures that pupils with communication and interaction needs can access learning and develop life skills that will enable them to fulfil their potential. We work with schools and staff to develop whole-setting good practice through consultation, training and signposting resources such as the Ordinarily Available SEND Provision (OASP) and Inclusive Support Series.
- This universal level of support will help most pupils with communication and interaction needs to be fully included in mainstream settings. For individual pupils, support will vary according to their needs, but may include advice, reports, training and direct work in areas such as communication, social interactions and relationships, sensory processing, emotional regulation and transitions.
- We offer a wide range of free training packages to schools, including the Autism Education trust Schools Programme, Bitesize training modules and SWiFT school/parent training. For more information, download the Universal Training Offer leaflet (pdf format, 1Mb) or speak to your Communication and Interaction Specialist Advisory Teacher.
Referrals
- We only accept referrals from publicly funded mainstream schools and academies in Oxfordshire for pupils who have communication and interaction as a primary need.
- We can support pupils from Reception through to 6th form.
- A pupil must be on the SEND register and may or may not have a diagnosis of autism or an education, health and care plan (EHCP).
- Before making a referral schools must have:
- Had a discussion with the Specialist Advisory Teacher to confirm that a referral is necessary
- Implemented universal strategies as recommended in the relevant communication and interaction pages of the Ordinarily Available SEND Provision
