Update: QTS and Statutory Induction Changes (from 2027)

The Department for Education (DfE) has confirmed upcoming changes to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and statutory induction requirements through the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026. These changes, which will affect primary and secondary academies from September 2027, are intended to strengthen consistency across the sector.

This early summary has been shared via the Local Government Association (LGA), drawing on DfE information, to help schools begin to understand the direction of travel ahead of full statutory guidance being published in autumn 2026.
