Update from Ofsted

Ofsted has recently published updated information to help schools understand when they are likely to receive their next inspection under the renewed Education Inspection Framework.

A short explainer video — When can schools expect their next inspection? — is now available on Ofsted’s YouTube channel. This provides clear guidance on expected timelines for different types of settings and inspection histories.

Key points from Ofsted include:

  • Section 8 improvers: Schools that previously had a Section 8 inspection and were identified as improving can expect their next inspection within 4 years
  • Section 8 decliners: Schools identified as declining at their last Section 8 inspection can expect their next visit within 2.5 years

The Ofsted video also summarises expectations for schools currently judged Good, Outstanding, Requires Improvement, or in a category of concern, helping leaders plan with confidence for the period ahead.
