National Year of Reading 2026

We’re delighted to be supporting the National Year of Reading 2026, a nationwide initiative encouraging people of all ages to rediscover the joy of reading. At Oxfordshire County Council, we know that strong reading habits contribute to both learning and wellbeing, and we’re excited to build on this through a year of celebration and engagement.

Throughout 2026, we’ll be promoting reading across our schools and encouraging families to get involved at home and in their communities.

The National Literacy Trust has created a free toolkit packed with helpful resources, including key dates, guidance, and practical materials for boosting reading engagement. BookTrust is the Early Years Lead partner for the National Year of Reading and has many resources to support early readers.
