Domestic abuse training

We have a rich programme of domestic abuse training sessions throughout September — designed to strengthen practice, deepen understanding, and support practitioners working with adults, children, and families across Oxfordshire. All sessions are open for registration via the OSCP training portal.

1. Basic Domestic Abuse Awareness 15 September, 09:30–12:00 A clear, accessible introduction to domestic abuse dynamics, patterns, and impacts — ideal for anyone new to the field or refreshing core knowledge.

2. Domestic Abuse: The Impact on Children and Families 16 September, 09:30–12:00 Exploring how domestic abuse affects children’s safety, development, relationships, and long‑term wellbeing, with a focus on trauma‑informed responses.

3. Child & Adolescent to Parent Violence and Abuse (CAPVA) 18 September, 09:30–12:00 A focused session on recognising, understanding, and responding to CAPVA — an increasingly visible and complex area of practice.

4. Using Reflection in Risk Management 21 September, 10:00–15:30 A full‑day workshop supporting practitioners to use reflective practice to strengthen risk conversations, decision‑making, and multi‑agency collaboration.

5. Building Relationships with Families Affected by Domestic Abuse 28 September, 10:00–15:30 A practice‑focused session exploring how to build trust, connection, and safety with families experiencing domestic abuse — with practical tools for relational, needs‑led engagement.

Final Session: Webinar – ‘Engagement’ in Domestic Abuse Services

We often talk about “service user engagement” — but what does it actually mean when practitioners decide whether someone is “engaged”… or not? Althea will share insights from her PhD research, exploring how these judgements are formed and how they shape support, risk, and victims’/survivors’ experiences of our systems.

A sharp, thought‑provoking session to close the series.
