DfE Consultation - School Food Standards

The Department for Education has launched a national consultation on proposed updates to the School Food Standards, which set the legal framework for the food and drink provided in schools in England.

The current standards have been in place for over 10 years and no longer fully reflect the latest nutritional guidance. This consultation seeks views from schools and other stakeholders on proposed changes to ensure all pupils are supported with healthier, high‑quality food across the school day, helping children to develop positive eating habits, improve health outcomes and be ready to learn.

Schools are encouraged to share their insights and practical experience to help shape standards that are both nutritionally robust and workable in practice.
