School Improvement Officer (Primary)

As you will be aware Vicky Musson, Laura Youngman and Lorna Buchanan have been seconded to Oxfordshire County Council since September 2024, playing a leading role in helping us to deliver on our school improvement priorities. I’m pleased to inform you that Vicky and Laura have agreed to extend the current arrangements for a further year whilst Lorna has decided to return to her substantive post as headteacher at Holy Trinity Catholic Primary School at the end of the academic year. Although we will Miss Lorna I’m sure the community at Holy Trinity will be pleased to welcome her back.

We are therefore looking to recruit another headteacher to join Laura and Vicky at the school improvement team on a secondment basis for 1 year.  The model of recruiting serving Oxfordshire headteachers to lead the school improvement programme has been very successful, providing experienced and successful headteachers the opportunity to do something different and new, gain valuable experience and professional development whilst at the same time allowing Oxfordshire County Council and Oxfordshire schools to benefit from the up to date expertise that they bring to the role.

We would therefore like to invite applications for a one year secondment for a Headteacher to join OCC School Improvement Team, this would ideally be on a full time basis however we would consider applications from candidates wanting to work part time. If you are a Headteacher with experience of leading improvements in more than one school and would welcome the opportunity to become involved in wider school improvement work, this may be the post for you.  If the idea excites you and you would like an informal conversation, please contact Zaheer Ahmed.

A copy of the job description and person specification can be found here - School Improvement Advisor (docx, 172kb)

Interested candidates will be asked to submit an  initial  ‘expression of interest’ of no more than one side of A4 to zaheer.ahmed@Oxfordshire.gov.uk by the 16 May 2025. Shortlisting will take place on 19 May 2025 and interviews on 22 May 2025.

The successful candidate/s will be expected to take up the post on the 1 September 2025.

If you would welcome an informal conversation about the role please get in touch with me at Zaheer.ahmed@oxfordshire.gov.uk to arrange a telephone conversation.
