Phonological Awareness

This autumn, the Early Years & Childcare Quality Improvement Team is offering free face-to-face training to launch the new Oxfordshire Phonological Awareness booklet.

Phonological awareness is a vital oral language skill that underpins a child’s journey to becoming a reader. It involves recognising and manipulating sounds in words, including skills such as rhyming, alliteration, blending, segmenting, and distinguishing between different sounds.

We expect at least one early years practitioner from every school to attend this training, which will be delivered at various locations across Oxfordshire. The training is also highly recommended for phonics leaders and reception teachers, as these skills continue to develop throughout the reception year. It is suitable for all practitioners, regardless of the phonics scheme your school follows.

What’s included:

  • Each school represented will receive a free copy of the booklet
  • Attendees will also receive a PDF of the PowerPoint presentation and a PDF version of the booklet after the session

Training options:

  • Face-to-face sessions across the county
  • Two online sessions also available
