Pay awards 2025/26

We’re pleased to confirm the national trade unions have agreed to the National Employers pay increase of 3.2 per cent for 2025/26.

This will apply to all colleagues on National Joint Council (NJC) for Local Government terms and conditions (grades 1 - 20), also known as the ‘Green Book’ pay scales.

  • This pay award will be backdated to 1 April 2025 and paid in September’s pay.

We can also confirm a 4 per cent pay award for teachers has been agreed for all pay points. This is effective from 1 September and will be paid in September’s pay.

The schools’ intranet will be updated shortly. If you receive Universal Credit, this increase together with the backdated payment may mean you receive less Universal Credit than normal or you may even earn too much to qualify. Unfortunately, payment of backpay cannot be staggered over a period of months. The only advice we are able to give is “Universal Credit is a very specific issue that applies in different ways to different people, it’s impossible for us to issue any national guidance.

Employees affected by this issue should speak to their Universal Credit Work Coach through their online account or call the Universal Credit Helpline on 0800 328 5644.”
