Introduction from the new assistant director

Dear all,

I would like to formally introduce myself as I have now officially started at Oxfordshire County Council. I have been appointed at Assistant Director of Schools and Settings (Standards, Effectiveness and Performance) and prior to this role I have been a teacher for over 21 years. My background has spanned the age ranges of 2 – 19 which has included opening a Free School in 2018 for children 2- 18 (with a 52 place nursery) as well as overseeing and leading multiple schools – the vast majority in areas of deprivation. I have been an Executive Headteacher of Primary and Secondary schools, Assistant Director of Sheffield City Council and most recently a CEO of a MAT in the South West.

I have a great passion for developing new entrants to the profession and have opened and led Teaching Schools as well as being part of ITE/PGCE policy and reform teams in the North.

I am thrilled to be working in the County and I am incredibly excited to get to know you all. I am very keen to conduct face to face visits and please do reach out if there is anything special you would like me to know or to attend in your schools or settings. I would sincerely love to meet some of your young people – after all, they are the ones who tell it like it is!

From an operational perspective, Zaheer Ahmed will continue to be present and work with me over the coming weeks and months. In this period of handover, you will most likely hear from both of us. Any significant changes will be communicated to you in a timely manner – I, of all people know how important this is.

Finally, please find my contact details below. Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time – and I will endeavour to reach you as soon as possible.

For now, look after yourselves and I look forward to meeting you soon.

Kim Wilson
