Language Lead programme in Oxfordshire relaunched in 2024/25
We look forward to working together this year to improve universal and targeted communication and language provision for the children of Oxfordshire. This academic year we are reoffering the six Language Lead sessions which form the initial training programme.
These sessions remain free of charge, and we are keen to engage all nurseries in Oxfordshire to sign up to this exciting initiative. This year for the first time we are also inviting Reception teachers / EYFS co-ordinators to take part in the initiative.
What is a ‘Language Lead approach?’
The aim of a ‘Language Lead’ approach is to improve universal early language provision by establishing a named practitioner with a responsibility for communication and language.
Language Leads will receive multi-agency informed training and support to enable them to develop reflective practice and identify areas of strength and areas for development in relation to early language.
Your Language Lead will be a leader and affect changes in your setting with the intention that all children reach their full potential What do I need to do next? If you already have a Language Lead in your nursery, ask them to sign the new agreement and return it to early.years@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
They will then be able to book onto the three network sessions running for Language Leads this academic year. The first session will be on 14/11/24 4-5pm on Microsoft Teams. Places can be booked via Education Services.
If you do not currently have an early years Language Lead, please choose a suitable person and ask them to sign the new agreement and return it to early.years@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
They will then be able to book onto the six online sessions running as part of the initial training programme for Language Leads this academic year.
The first session will be on Thursday 17th October 2024 3.30-5pm on Microsoft Teams. Places can be booked via Education Services
