The apprenticeship levy, impacts your school's budget if:
- staff are employed by the local authority (community or voluntary controlled schools)
- your school is Foundation or Voluntary Aided with an annual payroll bill of over £3m
- your school is an academy or part of a multi-academy trust with an annual payroll bill of over £3m
If your school contributes to the Oxfordshire County Council apprenticeship levy, formal training can be funded through the levy.
Due to different pay bill arrangements, the levy does not apply uniformly to all schools.
For voluntary-aided schools or questions about eligibility, contact apprenticeships@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
Other arrangements apply to academies, multi-academy trusts, or foundation schools. For advice, contact skills@oxfordshirelep.com.
Who pays?
The employing school funds the apprentice's salary.
If your school pays the apprenticeship levy, the levy can fully fund training costs. If the levy has been spent, the government funds 90% of the training cost.
