ParkPlay Oxford City

We at Active Oxfordshire would like to invite you to the launch of ParkPlay – a new physical activity initiative launching in Blackbird Leys, Oxford on Saturday 4 October, from 10:00 to 12:00.

We thought you might be interested in this initiative following the pop-up play areas you were involved with in Oxford City Centre.

ParkPlay has been running across England for the last three years, reaching almost 100 parks to provide weekly, free outdoor play to communities. It welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds to connect and have fun.

We have been working with ParkPlay to bring the initiative to Oxfordshire, as it aligns with our commitment as an Active Partnership to make physical activity more accessible, enjoyable, and social for everyone.

What is ParkPlay?

ParkPlay sessions take place every Saturday morning and are completely free. They are fun, informal gatherings where people can join in simple games and activities that encourage movement, connection, and laughter.

Sessions are run by local volunteer PlayLeaders, who help shape activities to suit the group and ensure everyone feels welcome and included. The PlayLeaders at Blackbird Leys will be from local organisation Oxford Community Action.

We expect ParkPlay to support residents in leading a healthier, more active lifestyle, while also helping to reduce isolation and strengthen community bonds. The event will reach a diverse range of participants, including demographics who are often underrepresented in physical activity and have fewer opportunities.

The launch event will take place in Blackbird Leys Park, from 10:00 to 12:00. It would be great to have you there so you can see the impact this new programme can have in one of the county's priority neighbourhoods.

Hope to see you there!
