E-bug and IPC training in schools
It is a quality improvement project and the training and evaluation has previously been piloted in Liverpool successfully. UKHSA CYP national leads would now like to extend this to a couple more areas. The training resource/pack has already been developed.
The ask of Local Authorities is to set up teacher training sessions for schools in their area. UKHSA can either provide a train the trainer session for Local Authorities or provide the training directly, with LA then taking over for subsequent sessions. The training consists of infection prevention and control in the school setting and how to use E-Bug. The training resource is appropriate from early years to KS4. It may sit well within the KS2 curriculum however. Once the training has been delivered to schools in the area, we would ask LA to identify a couple of schools that would be interested in having the training fully evaluated afterwards e.g. what impact the training has had on reducing the spread of infections. Other schools not evaluated fully will have some form of follow up about how they use E-Bug.
Originally the ask was for this to be set up for September, but it is acknowledged that time is running out so it could potentially be moved back a year. It also is not essential that it happens in September. If you are interested in supporting this pilot please contact donna.lecky@ukhsa.gov.uk and paul.conneely@ukhsa.gov.uk, even if you feel that it would be to soon to get anything arranged for this September please register your interest as the dates may be pushed back.
