Secondary Non-Specialist Teachers: Exciting New Opportunity for 2025-2026

Our hub is part of an EEF trial for 2025/26 to support non-specialist teachers in developing the specialist knowledge required for teaching maths. This programme, equivalent to six days, is designed for non-specialist teachers in state-funded schools in England.

Who Can Take Part?

  • Teachers currently teaching some mathematics or committed to doing so within the next year.
  • Teachers who have not undertaken Initial Teacher Training (ITT) in mathematics.

Schools can enrol two teachers, with at least one teaching a Year 8 class. Schools will be randomly allocated to a control or intervention group. The intervention group will receive the SKTM Programme and £500 after completing evaluation activities. The control group will receive £1,000 upon completion of evaluation activities and will be placed on a waiting list for the programme in 2026/27.

Primary Teaching for Mastery – Introductory Work Groups

The Maths Hub invites schools to begin their Teaching for Mastery journey with Introductory Work Groups. This programme aims to develop a collaborative learning culture, enhance professional development, and improve pupil outcomes in maths. Headteacher involvement is crucial for effective implementation.

Each school will nominate a maths lead and an additional participant to take part in Work Groups and lead school-wide improvements. Participants must be empowered by their headteachers to implement and evaluate changes in policies and practice.
