KS1 and KS2 Reporting to Parents

Head teachers at maintained schools must prepare annual reports parents. The report must cover the pupil’s achievements, general progress and attendance record. 

Additionally, For pupils in Year 1 and Year 2 (for pupils who took the check in 2024):

The pupil’s phonics screening check score (including pupils who have since left the school) or a comment to say their child was absent, did not participate in the check, or results were affected by maladministration

 For pupils in Year 4:

  • The pupil’s MTC score (including pupils who have since left the school) or the reason why heir child did not receive a result At the end of KS2 it must also include:
  • A brief account of what the TA and tests results show about the pupil's progress individually, and in relation to other pupils in the same year, drawing attention to any of the pupil’s particular strengths and weaknesses
  • Results of any national curriculum tests taken, including the pupil’s scaled score, and whether or not they met the ‘expected standard’ (or a statement explaining why TA was not completed or tests were not undertaken)
  • The pre-key stage standards achieved by the pupil if applicable
  • A qualitive narrative commentary of the pupil’s achievements and progress in the areas of engagement if applicable
  • The outcomes of statutory national curriculum TA in English writing and science 
  • Comparative information about the attainment of pupils of the same age in the school

  • End of KS1 Reporting Requirements 2024 For maintained schools, it is a requirement that reports cover pupils’ general progress in statutory subjects.
  • This includes subjects within the KS1 national curriculum as well as religious education unless a child has been withdrawn from this subject by their parents.

However, even in schools where the TA frameworks and or the non-statutory KS1 tests, there is no longer a requirement to report results to parents. Academies’ requirements are set out in their funding agreements.
