Design a Recycling Superhero

Recycling Superhero Design Activity and Prize Draw The national campaign “Recycle Week” runs from 14 to 20 October 2024 and this year will have the theme "Rescue Me, Recycle”. This will highlight common types of recyclable waste that are most likely not to be recycle and ask residents to “Rescue” at least one of these recyclable items from their rubbish bin.

Although Oxfordshire has the highest recycling rate of any County Council area in the country at nearly 60%, around half of the average rubbish bin is made up of items that could have been recycled. The national campaign will feature five cartoon characters designed to represent these items that need rescuing.

In Oxfordshire, we're running a competition for entrants to design a Recycling Superhero character who could rescue these recyclable items. Could you help promote this activity to children in your school? It would be relevant in art classes; subjects covering environmental issues or through eco-schools or another relevant body or group.

Entrants can submit their designs by DM to our social media channels @OxfordshireRecycles on Facebook, @OxonRecycles on X or by email to waste.management@oxfordshire.gov.uk

We will also be putting entry forms into the children’s section of all Oxfordshire libraries. We’ve created a PDF document that can be printed out to frame the design, but entrants can also send them direct – just create the design and send us a photograph, scan or image file of the character including your name (and that of a parent/guardian) and address including postcode.

Designs from entrants under 16 must be submitted by a parent/guardian. The deadline for entries is midnight on 20 October but any entries we receive by 14 October, may also be used in our communications during Recycle Week. Full details and terms and conditions are available here  N.B. we have some images we can provide to support the news item - these are JPGs and a PDF of the entry form.

They were created by an external designer and thus we don't have them in MS format to run the accessibility checker so have not attached them but can provide if needed. Example on this social media post
