Announcing the winners of Oxfordshire Libraries eBook short story competition 2024!

Congratulations to the winners of the Oxfordshire Libraries eBook short story competition 2024!

All the winning stories are available to borrow as an eBook or eAudiobook from the Oxfordshire Libraries Libby app and Overdrive collection. Sophia Skidmore won the children’s category with A Street of Time - A rip-roaring time-travel adventure spanning multiple centuries and countries!

Sophia said “I felt emotional because I found out I was going to be an author and they were going to release an ebook and audio book and the whole world could hear me read out my story, which is a massive thing for a little girl like me. It makes me really happy! 😊”

Alison Zhao won the young adult category with 2056 - A thought-provoking story exploring how bringing an AI robot into the home can have an unimaginably profound impact, for better and for worse. Alison said “I couldn't believe it and had to stand there for a minute to just let it sink in. And then it hit me, ‘I'm going to be published. That's amazing!"

Jez Fernandez won the adult category with the story “Dreamland” - A wickedly funny, yet strikingly poignant story littered with pop-culture references, set in the most quintessential of American diners and with a diverse cast of authentic characters. We had a fantastic response from writers sending in their stories so thank you to everyone who entered and to all who promoted the competition to their students. Now in its tenth year, the competition highlights the exceptional writing talent across Oxfordshire.
