All Schools - Elective Home Education

The form used to record a pupil moving to Elective Home Education ( Known as ‘ The School Exit form’  https://schools.oxfordshire.gov.uk/access-learning/elective-home-education has been revised.

When a young person is removed from a school roll to be formally registered as Elective Home Educated’ ( EHE) the school must inform the school health nurse.

Additionally when completing the form we ask you to reflect upon any historic or traumatic events that the pupil and the family may have experienced , and/or Neglect, and provide a full summary of events . Please include copies of pertinent correspondence and any advice given by agencies.

Although the decision to remove a young person from roll lies with the parent/ carer , it is always important that the school seek the voice of the child, therefore an additional section has been added to the form to allow for this detail. The Elective Home Education team will quality assure the application and if there are any gaps it will be returned to the school .

The School Exit Form is an opportunity for the school to share information , not just about the young person but pertinent information about the family including those seeking to take full responsibility for the child's education.

It is important that all factors are considered and support is identified and offered to support a child to remain on roll where appropriate. Equally as a Local Authority, OCC recognise parental right to Electively Home Educate their child, we seek to ensure that all parents are making a decision that is fully informed and is in the best interests of the child. Once completed the School Exit form must be reviewed and signed by a member of SLT or DSL and submitted without delay to EHE@oxfordshire.gov.uk. As always please do contact the EHE team for advice and guidance, and so the offer of mediation can be made to the parent where required.  EHE Telephone number 01865 328214
