Phase transfer process for Children with EHCPs

As you are aware the 15th February each year is the statutory deadline for naming a placement for the following September for children with EHCPs starting school in Reception, children in Infant School moving to Junior school and those in year 6 transferring to Secondary School.

We have already started informing some families about the destinations for their children and naming these in their EHCPs for September 2024. Please bear in mind that the decision of the Local Authority is based on the evidence received through the Phase Transfer Annual Review and a lot of work has gone into ensuring equity across all decisions.

We have a duty to ensure that our children are placed in the most appropriate placements to meet their needs and we appreciate that any transition can cause anxiety for our children and their families. For some families we are not yet in the position to name a placement and we want to reassure those who have not heard yet that we are continuing to work with them to identify appropriate placements to confirm and meet our statutory 15th February deadline.

If you are approached by parents, please reassure them that if they have not heard yet, we will be in touch soon to discuss all options and we ask for the support of the child’s current school or setting with this please.

If you have any questions, please speak with your designated EHCP Casework Officer in the first instance.
