Supporting suddenly bereaved children and young people

Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Support staff
A seminar to introduce you to methods that can be used to support bereaved children

Brake, the road safety charity, are holding a seminar in Euston, London on Thursday 5 July 2018, which will introduce how children and young people experience and express grief, and how to support them through bereavement.

This low-cost seminar offers a great professional development opportunity for all educators and support workers.

Led by a range of academic experts and practitioners, speakers at this event will discuss insights into best practice in supporting children and young people who have been bereaved suddenly and traumatically.

Topics covered at the seminar will include:

  • Symptoms and emotions that children and young people who have been suddenly bereaved may experience.
  • A discussion of the impact of bereavement through suicide on young people, and best practice guidance in supporting children and young people bereaved by suicide.
  • A discussion of the ways in which children and young people comprehend and understand grief, and overview of how support workers can best communicate with bereaved young people.
  • Sign-posting to a range of services, resources and organisations that are available for practitioners working with bereaved children and young people.
