Non attendance on OSCB courses

School Leaders
Schools staff amount to 33% total non attendance on OSCB courses

The OSCB is pleased to train thousands of Oxfordshire’s school staff in safeguarding, free of charge, each year. We do however operate a £50 charge for non-attendance or late cancellation for our training courses. This is because we value OSCB trainers’ time, we have long waiting lists and, as mentioned, the courses are otherwise free-of-charge. Courses can easily be cancelled and in some circumstances can be transferred to another colleague up until 6 days before they take place.

Invoices sent to schools amounted to 33% of the total for the financial year 2021/22. This is higher than most other organisations types and doesn’t include non-attendance relating to Covid which we haven’t been charging for.

We think there are 2 things that can be done to make a difference:
• School leaders to ensure that staff know the cancellation/ non-attendance policy by sharing the T&C: https://training.oscb.org.uk/terms
• Ensure that cancellations are made well in advance where possible and that staff keep their contact details updated on our Learning Management System

Ideally, we don’t want to send invoices as we are really keen that everyone who books a space on our courses attends. It is also costly and time consuming to send out multiple invoices.

We hope, with these plans in place, there will be a reduction in the number of non-attendees from Schools over the next 12 months and your school will not have to allocate funds to non-attendance.

We really appreciate your support with this.
