The Body Project – expressions of interest required for a positive body image project for students

The Oxfordshire County Council public health team are looking for expressions of interest from school staff in Oxfordshire to take part in the Body Project over the next academic year, 2022/23. The Body Project is a group-based intervention aimed at secondary school girls aged 14 and over, providing a forum to confront unrealistic appearance ideals and develop healthy body image and self-esteem. It has a strong evidence-based behind it and has repeatedly been shown to effectively reduce body dissatisfaction, negative mood, unhealthy dieting and disordered eating.

The project is delivered by trained facilitators over 6 sessions to groups of between 6 to 12 participants, and participants are usually self-selecting. Staff can either be trained to deliver the project, or be trained to deliver the project and as a trainer so that they can train other staff. The training time commitment would be one full day for a facilitator, and two full days for train-the-trainer. Any member of school staff can be trained.

Contact Jack Gooding, Oxfordshire County Council public health team (jack.gooding@oxfordshire.gov.uk), to express your interest in taking part in the project.
