The NQT year is very important because it forms a vital bridge between initial teacher training and continuing professional development in school. The school has a duty provide an induction programme which should include:

  • an induction tutor
  • well targeted support
  • monitoring of your progress against the Teachers' Standards
  • 10% NQT time
  • 10% PPA (planning, preparation and assessment) time

The induction year must consist of one academic year (six school terms in Oxfordshire). For a part-time NQT, the period is calculated pro rata thus an NQT who works 0.5 would have an induction of 12 terms.
