Course descriptions:

Educational Visits Co-ordinator (EVC)

This certificated course is for those who have responsibility for managing and monitoring visits programmes. Ideally applicants will have direct experience of running a variety of visits and will be in a position to advise and manage colleagues. If administration officers undertake this role, they should confirm their delegated responsibilities with senior management beforehand.

The course follows the Outdoor Education Advisers Panel (OEAP) recommended core content of using National Guidance; establishing the principles and rationale for visits; legal expectations including the local (OCC) context; planning, preparation and evaluation of visits; risk management; emergency planning; monitoring.

The course is a full day. To book courses visit SLA Online and type in EVC in the search box.

EVC revalidation

The EVC is required to revalidate every 3 years, this 3 hour course delivers updated materials, current thinking and concepts. To book courses visit SLA Online and type in EVC in the search box.

Visit leader

This certificated course is for those who wish to undertake off site visits. It focuses specifically on developing leader competence through identifying the core components for organising a successful visit:  using the National Guidance; principles and rationale for visits; legal expectations including the local (OCC) context; planning, preparation and evaluation of visits; risk management; emergency planning; monitoring.

The training is delivered in various formats:

  • Whole day – this will include a practical component on risk management
  • Twilight – normally 2 x 2 hr sessions
  • INSET day or similar – 1 x 4 hr session

It is strongly recommended that all visit leaders participate in this training. To arrange this training for your school contact Nick Rose, Off Site visits Officer.

Outdoor Learning Cards

This is a practical, hands on course designed to promote and deliver quality outdoor learning on or close to the school/setting site. The outdoor learning cards are aimed at providing outdoor learning from KS1 to KS3 and focus on 4 specific areas: orienteering; team building; journeying and bouldering (use of traversing walls).

No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to get involved. Schools will receive a pack of cards together with supporting resource materials.

The course is delivered as a whole day or twilight sessions. To arrange this training for your school contact Nick Rose, Off Site visits Officer.

Environmental Learning Cards

This is a practical course aimed at demonstrating and linking environmental topics into curriculum areas. Course participants receive a full resource pack and can be included in the Outdoor Learning Cards course. To arrange this training for your school contact Nick Rose, Off Site visits Officer.
