Update to Admissions Policies

The Department for Education has issued new advice about amending admission policies

The Minister of State for School Standards wishes all Admission Authorities in England to introduce a new over-subscription criterion to give second highest priority to children who were previously in state care outside England (e.g. adopted after being looked after by a public authority, a religious organisation or another provider of care whose sole purpose is to benefit society).

An advice document has been issued which also suggests how this new rule could be added to existing admission rules. During the Autumn and early Spring Term 2018/19, Oxfordshire County Council will be consulting on an amended admission policy for all Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools for entry to school in September 2020.

Other Admission Authorities are encouraged to amend their admission policies for consultation in the same time period. A consultation must last 6 weeks and be completed by 31 January 2019. After consultation, this amended policy must be determined by the Admission Authority (School Governors or Trust Board) by 28 February 2019.

A copy then must be sent to Oxfordshire County Council and displayed on the school website by 15 March 2019.

Please contact your link Admissions Officer or the Admissions & Transport Service Manager at County Hall if you require further advice.
