School emergency closure procedure

Details on how school closures should be decided and who they should contact.

The decision to close or partially close a school lies with the Headteacher, wherever possible, in consultation with the Chair of Governors. The decision should be based on access to essential services (heating etc), staffing levels and transport safety.

The school closures system

The updated school closures system can now be used by a nominated users in each school to add, update and remove closures for their own school for snow, building faults, industrial action etc. This information is then automatically shown on the public website for parents to see.

Schools need to be specific with days and dates e.g. ‘ We are closed Monday 11 December’ and ‘we will reopen Tuesday 12 December’ Do not use text We are closed today’ or ‘we will be open tomorrow’

Getting permission to use the system

You need to request login permission before you can use the system.

Users can then access the school closures system from any computer with internet access.

Nominated users in each school can add, update and remove closures for their own school(s). School users need to have a Oxfordshire Schools Gateway (OSG) login, and be the person(s) responsible for notifying closures for their school.

To request these permissions for your school complete a login to school closures system request form (doc format, 45Kb) and email to ict.servicedesk@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
