Pay increase 2020

Questions and answers about your payslip

Why has my pay changed this month?

The 2020-21 pay awards have been agreed and are reflected in your November payslip. For more information about the agreed pay awards please see: http://schools.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/schoolsnews/pay-award-2020

How will this be reflected on my payslip?

In November 2020 you will have more than one ‘Basic Pay’ entry.

  • The first ‘Basic Pay’ line shows the total backpay due to you (as a result of the late pay award)
  • The second ‘Basic Pay’ line shows your pay for this month
  • Where you have received overtime and other additional payments linked to your contractual hourly rate, these will be shown as being removed at the old rates and repaid using the new rates.

Please note that the new line may also include any new hours being paid this month.

  • Where applicable, other payments may also show as being removed at the old rate and repaid using the new rates.

Please note: your back pay and new base salary will be subject to normal deductions, including tax, National Insurance (NIC) and pension.

My payslip is not showing any back pay/arrears for the pay award?

A small number of employees have received the back pay as a separate payment into their bank accounts on 30 November 2020.  The detail of this payment will be shown on your payslip for December including an equal deduction for the payment made separate to your salary.  Should you require any more information you can contact us through web chat or by raising an enquiry.

Will the award be applied to honoraria payments?

Work is underway to review all honoraria payments made this year. Where applicable, the backdated pay award will be applied to honoraria in December.

I am employed on TUPE terms and conditions; will I receive the pay award?

Where applicable, the pay award has been applied to your salary and backdated. Any queries should be referred to your line manager first and if they can’t answer your questions contact the OCC HR Advice Desk (link to: https://intranet.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/content/hr-management-advice-0)

I am a casual employee will I get an increase?

You’ll receive a pay award for all claims paid from November 2020.

How will my pension be affected?

Local Government Pension Scheme

The increase to your basic pay will be subject to pension contributions as normal.

Your pension contribution rate will be re-assessed from the pay award effective date.  Assessment is calculated by taking each month’s new basic pay (x 12) and any pensionable extras in the previous 12 months. Pensionable extras include things like overtime, market supplements or bonus payments.

If you are re-assessed into a higher pension band the contributions will be deducted for each month at the same time you receive the pay award arrears.

Teachers' Pension Scheme

The increase to your basic pay will be subject to pension contributions as normal.

Your pension contribution rate will be re-assessed from the pay award effective date.  Assessment is calculated by taking each month's pay multiplied by 12.

If you are re-assessed into a higher pension band the contributions will be deducted for each month at the same time you receive the pay award arrears.

Firefighters Pension Scheme

The increase to your basic pay will be subject to pension contributions as normal.

Your pension contribution rate will be re-assessed from the pay award effective date.  Assessment is calculated using your new Whole Time Equivalent salary.

If you are re-assessed into a higher pension band the contributions will be deducted for each month at the same time you receive the pay award arrears.

Will the pay award have an impact on my pay-related budget reports?

Yes. The increases arising from the pay award, including any backdated pay will be applied to your pay-related budget reports.

Who do I speak to about my pay concerns?

If these questions and answers don’t answer your question, please discuss with your line manager in the first instance. If they are unable to resolve your query you can raise an enquiry using webchat (link to https://extra.hants.gov.uk/employee/contactus).
